Nanjing First Hospital was founded in 1936, ranked as Class-A general hospitals by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC). Over the years, Nanjing First Hospital has joined Nanjing Medical University, and China Pharmaceutical University, respectively, as their teaching hospital. Nanjing First Hospital is also named as Nanjing Medical University Third School of Clinical Medicine, and Nanjing Cardiovascular Hospital, promoted as the National Advanced Center for Stroke, and Provincial Center for Coronary Heart Disease in Jiangsu, in particular well-known for its heart transplantation. Up to date, 6 national clinical training centers are localized at our hospital.
After 83 years of development, currently Nanjing First Hospital employs 2,918 staff, and has 2,000 beds. With one main institute and two branch institutes (known as South Institute annexed in 2005 and Hexi Institute in 2016), Nanjing First Hospital covers a construction area of 207 thousand m2. No. of outpatient visits in 2018 reach over 1.96 million, and No. of inpatient discharge is over 77 thousand. There are 43 clinical and paramedical departments and 42 nursing wards in the hospital. Nanjing First Hospital currently has 1 national key medical discipline, 1 national key clinical specialty, 4 provincial-level key disciplines, 1 provincial-level disease diagnosis and treatment center, 4 key disciplines of Nanjing Medical University, 20 provincial-level key clinical specialties, 2 municipal-level key disciplines, 8 municipal-level key clinical specialties, 14 doctoral training programs, 30 master training programs,1 national post-doctoral program and 6 Academician Workshops.
Nanjing First Hospital provides advanced medical equipment for patient care. A total of 118 medical equipment each worth over 1 million includes Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography(PET-CT),Isotope Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), Digital Subtracted Angiography (DSA) and etc.
Since the year of 2005, medical partnership has been established between Nanjing First Hospital and 17 secondary hospitals from Nanjing, Northern Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province, A total of 136 branch centers were founded in large and middle size hospitals to disseminate our advanced expertise and technology to serve more patients in Jiangsu, Anhui and Hubei Province including heart center, diabetes center, orthopedics center, general surgery center, rehabilitation center, ophthalmology center, intervention center and gynecology and obstetrics center and etc.
In November 2002, Nanjing First Hospital was accredited with ISO 9001 certificate of quality management system by British BSI Pacific Company. In 2013, Nanjing First Hospital became the first hospital in Jiangsu approved by British Bupa Group as Silver Level Management Quality Service(Enabling foreign patients to be treated in our hospital and get reimbursed by most health insurance companies in Europe). In 2013, Nanjing First Hospital International Medical Section was set up and provided one-on-one treatment to over 100 foreign experts annually. In 2014, Nanjing First Hospital was enlisted for the first time in the Top 100 best Chinese Hospitals in the 2013 ranking released by Hospital Management Institute of Fudan University, ranked the third in the top 100 highly-competitive municipal hospitals list and ranked 95th in the top 100 highly-competitive .
Internationalization is strategically important in the development of our hospital. In 1990s, Nanjing First Hospital began to reach out for international cooperation, and in 1992 we set up Joint Cardiovascular Research Center with Ocala Heart Institute, USA to strength heart program. So far, our hospital has established close collaborations with over 60 institutes from more than 20 countries such as USA, UK, Germany, and etc. Over last ten years, the hospitals received a total of 1600 international experts and hired over 50 top experts as visiting professors. In order to further promote and facilitate international exchanges, we have obtained the accreditation certificate for the privilege of hiring foreign experts to work in our hospital. In 2016, We become the first medical institute that set up the Jiangsu Foreign Expert Workshop approved by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Human Resource and Social Security, making it more convenient for foreign experts working in China. Starting from the year 2018, we started to invite world-renowned cardiovascular experts to work full-time in our hospital to provide international top-notching medical service to the citizens of Nanjing and people nearby.
We are also strengthening the collaboration with many internationally top experts, including the Nobel Laureate Barry James Marshall (HP), Thomas C. Sudhof (stem cell), Chinese Government Friendship Award Winner Gregg Stone and are setting up experts workstations. We also hold over 10 high-level international symposium annually to communicate and disseminate the latest medical progress. We co-hosted Asia Pacific Stroke Conference 2017, and over 100 international experts from 27 countries joined the conference. We have also held CBS for 10 consecutive years, 1500 attendees annually with 100 experts from over 20 countries.
We are looking forward to cooperating with leading medical institutions and teams to expand our international connections in medical technology, management of scientific research and long-term cooperation.
